With Valentine's Day coming up, we've just updated Matchmaker Millie with a new game mode, "Timeless Mode". In this mode, play on any of the venues you've unlocked for as long as you can and try and get a high score, until you create a mis-match. Millie needs to match make as many couples as she can for Valentine's Day! It's loads of fun :)

We also recently did a Q&A with Gizmodo about developing games as a couple which was pretty exciting. You can read the article here. The article was also reposted on Lifehacker.

Some nice reviews of the game have also being published:

"At the end of the day, Matchmaker Millie is a phenomenal new arcade game for the iPad and iPhone..."
- The iPhone App Review

"The graphics are vibrant and cute and the gameplay is not only fun but also addictive."
- No Brainer App Reviews

"...has all the elements (including a split screen multiplayer mode) to make it a touch screen success."
- ArcadeLife

We got up to a point where it seemed strange to even call the game "Monster Date", so it has undergone a transformation...

Introducing, "Matchmaker Millie":

So who is Millie you may ask? She is a talented matchmaker of course, helping singles find true love!

Monster Date - Quick update - Iterative Development

This past week was mainly spent coding up a sleeker, and cleaner UI for Monster Date.

We also layed out the tasks required to finish the first major iteration of the game. After the initial 2 week project (which I guess we could call the first iteration) we decided to continue the project in an iterative mater. This means with each iteration, we'd have a somewhat playable game, and repeat the process over and over refining the artwork, gameplay etc and adding extra features until we get to the final game. It's a very basic model and suits our very small team of 1.5 very well as it lends itself to getting things done without being too rigid.

We are on track to finish the first iteration of the game in about 2 weeks time, after that we hope to iterate weekly.

We've been busy planning out and designing more elements of the game. Rather than just an endless game mode, there will now be a "Story" mode as well, with different levels and dating venues to unlock as you progress in the game.

We've also been playing around with the art style of the game, initially we were going to go with a pixel art style, but it has evolved into a more vector art style, and still evolving...

Here is the current evolution of a monster so far:

Okay, so this was originally going to be a small two week "throw-away" project before moving onto something bigger, however it is starting to feel like it may have a bit more potential than just a small 2 week project. It started brewing in the back of my head last week that this game could be pretty cute and fun if I invested more effort and time into it.

After sending out some Testflight builds and showing it around to some friends and fellow devs, I've received some really good feedback and a lot of gameplay suggestions, so rather than submit what I have now and declare the project "over", I've decided that the result of the last two weeks is an Alpha build and I'm going to be developing this game further.

Hooby Groovy has been able to figure out a way to spare more time to help develop this game further and we've got some really cool ideas to add to the game.

We're really excited about this game, stay tuned for updates and thanks to everyone for giving such great feedback and encouragement!

Monster Date - Make a game in 2 weeks progress report.

Monster Date - Working title.

So week 1 just passed and I spent it pretty much on refining the gameplay and adding a pickup and scoring system. I did lose 2 days as I was attending Game Masters: The Forum, but it was worth it.

Hooby Groovy is helping me with the graphics again, the look of the game is going to be similar to the original "inspired by" picture I posted last week, but with an even more pixel art feel to it. Here is a "girl" monster she's been working on:

Originally, I just wanted to have a *very* simple game, as I did with Cow Abduct!, but the more I work on this the more ideas I have, I'll have to put aside some time to organise them one day. I'm starting to feel that this game might have a bit more potential than just a quick 2 week project. I'm going to get it to the original simple game point I was planning to, and assess from there. Stay tuned!
